We at Mobile Doctors were honored to contribute to the significant cause of the PNG Cancer Foundation’s Maus Grass Program, aligning with the Movember Men’s Health Awareness initiative. Our active participation took place at the Grand Papua Hotel on November 30th, gathering esteemed representatives from various business sectors and state-owned enterprises. Graciously sponsored by the Bank of South Pacific, this event served as a crucial platform for raising awareness and fostering proactive health discussions.
The Mobile Doctors Health Promotion team, representing Mobile Doctors extended comprehensive support by offering complimentary wellness checks to all participants. Moreover, our team engaged in invaluable knowledge sharing, contributing insights during Dr. K. Amoko’s (surgeon at PMGH) educational presentation on male cancers in PNG.
Sister Vicky Wari’s presentation from the NDoH highlighted the pivotal role of Public Health Policies and legislation in combating lifestyle diseases. These policies encompassed crucial areas such as Tobacco Control, Alcohol Policy, Cancer Control, Betelnut Control, and the regulation of Sugar-Sweetened Beverages. However, the event also underscored the challenges in implementing these essential policies effectively.
This enlightening gathering emphasized key takeaways for individuals and their families. Cancer is preventable through prudent lifestyle choices:
1. Embrace a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and nuts, significantly reducing cancer risks by 30-50%.
2. Discard detrimental habits like smoking, betelnut chewing, and excessive alcohol consumption.
3. Consider vaccination against HPV and Hepatitis B as a preventive measure.
4. Prioritize health by allocating resources for medical check-ups and cancer screenings every 2 to 3 years.
At Mobile Doctors, we firmly believe in supporting impactful initiatives like the PNG Cancer Foundation’s Maus Grass Program. We are dedicated to collaborating with organizations committed to promoting health and wellness initiatives, fostering a healthier society, and actively contributing to such noble causes.
